Welcome Night: Portland Hotel

The Welcome Night will be held at one of Melbourne’s most historic hotels, the Portland Hotel. This relaxed pub in the centre of Melbourne is the perfect place to unwind after a long trip and enjoy a few drinks and a game of pool. The James Squire Brewhouse incorporated into the Portland Hotel offers a range of hand crafted ales brewed on site.

Opening Ceremony: National Gallery of Victoria

The Ian Potter Centre: National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is one of Australia’s finest art galleries, holding a remarkable collection of Australian indigenous and contemporary art. The gallery features the work of well-known Australian artists such as Sir Sydney Nolan, Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin. The NGV is the perfect venue for an Opening Ceremony which will highlight Australian culture, through an indigenous dancing performance and a traditional ceremony welcoming delegates to Victoria.

First Night Party/Aussie Night: The Gryph Inn

The First Night Party will be held only metres away from the day’s debates, at the Gryph Inn on campus. We have organised a traditional Australian BBQ to kick off a night which will be filled with Aussie entertainment. Prizes will be given to the person who pulls off the best Australian outfit!

Dress Code: Casual/Aussie

AlumbraBreak Night: Alumbra

Alumbra is situated on the Central Pier in the Docklands, boasting amazing views of the city skyline. Break night at Alumbra will be a higlight of the tournament, with a massive dancefloor and amazing DJ allowing people to let loose. The club fuses Middle Eastern and European influences to create an amazing experience. If you are looking for a more cultural experience, you can try one of Alumbra’s traditional sheishas (Arabic water pipes) that come with a range of scented tobaccos.

rmitWomen’s Night: RMIT Storey Hall

Historically, RMIT Storey Hall has been the venue for many of Melbourne’s largest public meetings and rallies. During World War 1, the building was leased to the Women’s Political Association (a feminist pacifist organization), where the purple, white & green flag was hoisted on the roof of the building. Fittingly,  the recently-renovated RMIT Storey Hall will be the location of one of the tournament’s premier events, with delicious finger food and colourful champagne provided.

espyTest Debate: The Espy

The test debate will be held at St Kilda’s iconic pub, the Esplanade Hotel. The “Espy” is situated minutes away from the beach, providing one of the best views in Melbourne. To make the debate a night to remember, we’ve organised a live band to play (and occasionally drown out) speeches in the debate.

Dress Code: Smart Casual (No thongs/shorts)

toorakChampionship Dinner

Our Championship Dinner will be held at the Lincoln of Toorak, Melbourne’s premier reception and event venue. Situated in the heart of Melbourne’s most exclusive suburb, the Lincoln is tastefully decorated to evoke elegance and charm. A delicious dinner and drinks flowing all night will highlight the showpiece event of the tournament.

Dress Code: Formal

The Final Event for Monash Australs 2009 will be held at one of Melbourne’s hottest clubs- Ffour. We’ve organised an amazing DJ to play some dance classics. And do cocktails on arrival sound enticing?
