The Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships (Australs) is the most prestigious debating tournament in the Asia-Pacific region. The tournament is considered the most intellectually demanding in the world, and is recognized for its high standards of debating and adjudication. Over its thirty-year history, Australs has developed international appeal, regularly attracting up to 400 competitors from across the Asia-Pacific region, including delegates from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
Australs provides a forum for young people across the region to discuss some of the most important and contentious issues confronting society. Participants are exposed to a melting pot of international perspectives in fields as varied as politics, economics, religion, philosophy and the environment. Australs has a rich history of developing the next generation of leaders and promoting innovative and critical thought.
